Is It Ok To Get Fingered?

A short holiday on the Cote d'Azur

I had to take last weekend fortunate to have a little break from hamburgers everyday and spend a few days on the Cote d'Azur. A friend of mine who currently lives and works there, had me to Antibes invited. Such an opportunity I will not miss me of course!

However, it was once questionable, would come to the long weekend in Antibes the first place. The reason: a certain volcanic eruption in Iceland, which paralyzed the European air traffic. Fortunately, the ash cloud, but withdrew just in time for last Thursday of the Lufthansa flight from Hamburg to Nice for the first time was able to fly again. When I arrived in Nice, it felt, despite the gray sky due to the mild temperatures and the sea air already like summer vacation. So it should have the following four days stay.

also a good friend from Munich was there, so we spent a wonderful time on the Cote d'Azur, with all that goes with it: delicious feast, long, boozy evening with great conversation, the beach and sun, swimming in the sea and of course tourist exploration. So we drove on the only day with more bad weather in the hinterland (Vence, Tourette sur Loup, Grasse) and visited Nice and Antibes. I could turn off all the time really well and I found it extremely difficult to return on Monday evening to Hamburg and then to get through the work week. Good thing there are photos to keep the good memories.

Homecoming Basketball Sayings

The charm of the 60

In the age of Broadband Internet, I am widely adopted due to the possibilities it offered from traditional TV viewing. perhaps the exception of sports. This does not mean that I would do without certain things that one associates with the TV, on the contrary. Instead of me to judge with the television program I watch, preferably only if it suits me the most good TV series. As these usually come from the USA preferably in original version. Who wants this all done, anyway do not rely more on the synchronized versions.

Currently I watch the excellent series Mad Men . This describes the events in a trendy New York advertising agency of 60 years, and this is very respected on authenticity, this one with everything. We follow not only the design of real-world ad campaigns from the time and gets on the edge as the presidential election campaign between Nixon u nd with Kennedy. Much more exciting, however, are the everyday things of this period: the large consumption of highly concentrated at work by officers, the ubiquity of cigarette consumption, whether at work, at home or even in bed (even in the presence of infants or naturally by the pregnant housewife), clearly visible racial discrimination, and especially the sex ratio before the emancipation of women.

So is the role of women in society and the world of work clearly defined: a housewife and mother at home, secretary or assistant in the office, where the highest career goal to find a man seems to be. The few women who will have the professional successes of the men are either not taken seriously, or scaring them. I can not judge yourself, but Mad Men is attributed to be very true to the original of the 60 in the representation of the situation. It is amazing how We now feel much shocking as what was just 50 years ago to the day.

Suitable for that I saw this week at the cinema also an excellent film, which is also in the 60s. This is the directorial debut of fashion designer Tom Ford, A Single Man . The film adaptation of the novel by Christopher Isherwood's novel is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. It stands out above all the aesthetics of the film. While this can be expected from a designer, but everything is true, the props, the music, the images, the acting. At the same time carries the story about a gay man who plays for the loss of his longtime partners with suicidal thoughts, in an unspectacular manner, a complex emotional world. You leave the cinema after the film is compelling, taken and happy about this beautiful cinematic experience. Highly recommended!

Psoriasis Makes Glands Behind Ear Swollen

Folk is the new indie

Regular readers of this blog and my concert have certainly noticed my musical preference for indie rock and pop. "Indie" denotes mind more a style of music than the original meaning of the word "independent", ie outside the mainstream. This is true even often agree, especially in the second half of the 00s-years, however, have plenty of indie artists celebrated remarkable commercial success and were noticed by the mainstream.

Meanwhile, in the music press everywhere proclaimed the end of the indie hype and kept constantly on the lookout for new musical trends (return of the 80s and 90s, Indie Tronic and much more). In fact, the number of new and remarkable album from indie bands lately unfortunately waned, established heroes of the scene are trying to develop (Franz Ferdinand, Editors), dissolve (The Rakes), running on the spot (Hot Hot Heat, The Futureheads) or irrelevant or poor (Kaiser Chiefs).

I even notice the change in my concert-goers habits. Since there is less to visit good Indie music concerts, one turns to other music ... and land increasingly at folk concerts. In fact, in my view, the current trend in the music scene. For several months, appears again and again suddenly a new and surprisingly good folk recording a newcomer band. Whether the Fleet Foxes, Mumford and Sons, The Leisure Society, Noah and the Whale, First Aid Kit, or others. At the same time bring more established Artists like Connor Oberst, Devendra Banhart or Adam Green albums out or create more sensational folky singer-songwriters such as Frank Turner, Matthew Scott breakthrough. Unlike the indie-hype is not the folk wave limitable also geographically, the bands come from both Europe and North America, but all draw on the musical legacy of the 60s and 70s back without this sounds stale.

All this, although not really what the dance floor, but the music is a warm feeling. In addition, the concerts are always held in a very nice pleasant atmosphere, you realize the most visitors the enthusiasm for music. Still, to some new good indie hits I would not mind!

Nuremberg

My brother has been living for several months in Nuremberg, where he has written to last for a company's master's thesis and is contracted with his girlfriend. There was even time for me to check out the two and I look on this occasion the tourist highlights of Nuremberg, a historic city that I never knew before. As Philippe recently encouraged me to come this weekend, I grabbed the opportunity by the forelock.

The two have a nice apartment on the northern edge of the city with good connections to public transport, so that from there the City can be explored well. Saturday was also for exploring the city dedicated to: Castle, Old Town, City Wall, but also the Wörthersee, according to Philippe one of the most beautiful places in Nuremberg. My brother is really not a city person, so he always preferred green areas. Sunday we went jogging together on the Pegnitzauen and came to the city limits Fürth. Afternoon gave the city be left for a tour of the festival and to the dozen pond, where the Nazi Party Rally Grounds Albert Speer's content. This awakened in me memories of the area of the Berlin Olympic stadium. The monumental buildings of the Nazis are always impressive and terrifying.

Unfortunately, as time passed always in such weekends too soon, but Philippe and Krassi will probably take a while to live in Nuremberg, so I will come back. I was indeed impressed by the largest city in Franconia, but also by the hospitality of the two.
