Egmore station |
As mentioned earlier, in Chennai tourism Respect, not a whole lot to offer. Some marches through the city are, however, if worthwhile, as that one gets an idea of how life goes on in an Indian city. Even the tourist attractions can take that way.

Government Museum |
housed, I was in Egmore, the area near the major train station, the architecture is worth seeing, there's built in colonial style. From here one can achieve a lot on the footpath. A short walk on my first evening takes me through busy streets. The streets, no matter how big, share here always pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and rickshaw drivers, from a European perspective, a chaotic, but cause of accident-free coexistence. Often the roads are lined by numerous small shops, looking to be in sections devoted to a specialty. I fell in the quarter, for example, the motorcycle specialists.
The following morning I visited the Government Museum. This is rather spectacular, but worth a museum of historical perspective. Part of the exhibition seems unchanged, in fact, since colonial times, the descriptions in the stuffed animals, sometimes even mention the Madras Presidency (the name of the managed directly from the Empire Area of South India). In parts of the museum is modernized, especially the bronze cabinet with Vishnu and Shivagstatuen is worth mentioning.

The Justizgebaeude |
Another attraction is the Fort Saint George, the nucleus of the British colony in Madras. The museum is beautifully decorated and the Saint Mary's Church in the Fort area is the oldest Anglican church outside the United Kingdom. The adjacent area, with its vibrant street life and its market is probably with the most exciting in Chennai.
Another small walk (I had to actually ward always some intrusive Rickshawfahrer) made me probably the nicest part of the capital of Tamil Nadu, the Marina Beach. The vibrant beach is a quiet counterpoint to the urban noise. The sound of the sea drowned here the noise and the constant Huperei. The hustle and bustle, one could observe a long time.
From here on the commercial street of the city, Dr. Rashakrishnan Salai, which is then to Cathedral Road. It is almost impossible to find here among the precious stores a way to dinner, so I must content myself with an Indian Burger.

Marina Beach |
This short but rich impressions I have of Chennai, which is too much of a juggernaut, as that would feel at home here as Europeans without local knowledge and language really. Therefore, I travel the next morning to Mamallapuram.
